Full Moon Party Koh Phangan

The island kicked into life on Sunday as it was Full Moon week. And with that came more glorious sunshine. Took Holly, Mary & Heather (the girls I met on Saturday at the Electronic Lounge) to Mae Haad & Koh Ma for snorkelling. Mary wasn’t keen to snorkel, so after we had lunch, she stayed on the beach while the rest of us walked round to Koh Ma. That place could be such a Destination Location if there was a bar like Café del Mar/Mambo (Ibiza) on it. As then for sure, all the shit lying around would be cleaned up. I had heard that someone was going to buy the whole island a few years ago. Not sure how much it was selling for but, it surely would be an incredible investment as it has sunsets 365 days a year. Sadly the guy never bought it. Holly & Heather were very proud of themselves once I showed them how to snorkel. Ok they didn’t actually dive down and then blow out the water through the snorkel, but just breathing under water through the tube was an achievement for them!! Rhythm & Sands was on today as well, so it was great catching up with my old mate Aston from the Freetstylers who was headlining the event. The girls didn’t make it but I was happy that two German girls, Anni & Milan were into what I was playing in the Electronic Lounge. I started just half an hour after Aston and he had the main stage rocking. We all headed off to Sramanora with Peter G after he finished his set about 3.30. Filippo was playing when we got there, and his music is seriously great. I needed to bail about 5.30 so headed home. I had planned a bbq Monday afternoon but ended up having things so many things to do, of which sorting tunes for Full Moon was a priority, so stayed in Monday night and got that done. It’s a bit of arse having to download stuff I would only ever play at Full Moon, but after almost 2 years of playing at Tommy Resort, I know what I have to do if I am to keep the crowd-even if it does mean selling my soul for the first hour. That said, I still don’t play anything older than 2 months-it’s all brand new big energy electro. At around 4am I can take the music more credible, and sometimes stay that way right up until 6. Sometimes I can’t!! We had to hire some cdj’s from Lady Oh as fucking Pioneer in BKK had still not repaired our 850’s-they had had them almost 3 months!!! So I picked them up from Great Bay and drove them to Haadrin. The beach was busy and packed with babes. Stopped by Holiday Beach on the way back to check out Boyonic who does his monthly Mojito Pool Party every Full Moon afternoon which goes on till about 10pm then picked up Aston and we went for a late lunch/early dinner at the night market. It took him about half an hour to decide what to eat. I had already checked that Ingolf had arrived with the laser and everything was working fine. Got to the beach about 10pm and it was actually busier that I expected-October and November Full Moon’s are very quiet!! It was nice to see Jao from Half Moon with his wife and he told me his aunties were out on the beach partying-it was their first Full Moon experience! I popped up to FUBAR to say hi to Jo, then to Mellow Mountain where I said hi to Aaron Fevah, and bumped into Mary & Holly & Heather. Another Mary had also returned who I had a crush on from last time she was here, but she only dates or fucks guys ten younger than herself-she is 34 by the way, and sadly I am not 24 anymore. So that was a shame!! Back at Tommy’s, Aston had showed up minus a couple of Canadian girls he had been chatting up over the last few days. He said he had probably bored them to death-if you knew Aston then you would know that is more than likely what happened!! The two Thai residents, Mackie & Ton played good sets and I am happy to say I kept the crowd till 6am with the help of Mary & Holly who were my DJ box dancers for the night!! I did have to revert back to electro after the tech house though at around 5am to get “the bounce” back on the podium, but it’s fine-it’s my job! Popped up to Cactus for a few minutes just to check out what they play between 6 and close as my boss P Noi, wanted to try Ton back on at 6am playing commercial instead of Darragh Casey who normally plays the last set. Cactus was playing pretty much the same as Ton, so although I already knew it, it confirmed what I thought. Historically on the beach, people head for Cactus when the sun comes up, as after all, it is open 365 days of the year (except for Buddha days of course!) so those that arrive a few days before Full Moon already know the bar, unlike Tommy which only opens on the beach on Full Moon night. And even if we had Sasha, Paul van Dyk or David Guetta playing the last set, it wouldn’t make any difference! People still end up at Cactus!
I was meant to be playing Solo Bar later Wednesday night for their Halloween party, but the new Samui Police Chief is enforcing the 2am close for all bars, including those in Soi Green Mango as well. So they had all decided to go on an indefinite strike and not open at all!!! Why they didn’t wait till after Halloween and the weekend and start the strike on Sunday is beyond me, as for sure Halloween would have brought in many extra customers and therefore a lot of extra money!! Still, I guess there is no logic in Thailand, and I was double pissed off as had turned down a gig at Maya Beach on Koh Tao to play Samui. Rumours are also flying around Phangan that the No 1 Police Chief is clamping down on parties and also will be enforcing earlier closing for some!!
So Ingolf and I headed up to Backyard about 7am. I had only had a couple of drinks all night, but was shattered as I really work hard on FM, so headed home after half an hour as the girls had disappeared also. The day after FM is usually a lost day but I went to Crave in the evening for some food. The strike also affected my Thursday at Solo so that meant I could get a whole lot of jobs done, including more gardening!! But first it was back to Haadrin to collect the CDJ’s and take them to the house of Lady Oh and her boyfriend Alan. Luckily I was in a rush as Alan just NEVER stops talking-he is seriously much worse than me!! I went to Pirates Bar in the evening for a few hours. DJ Rob told me he got laid TWICE over Full Moon, and he was drunk both times. I know I USED to be able to fuck if I was drunk, I DO remember being under 25 you know and shagging when I was pissed nonstop, but I just can’t do it now when I am drunk. Alex and Kuma from Quinte, Malaysia were also playing and they played some good tunes. I was pretty tired and was home by 1. I know, I am becoming a lightweight, that dreaded word for someone who cannot last the distance!!
Actually did some work on Friday in the office-checked out some new tunes, and that was about it. Also finally bought some Ant chalk (which is different from blackboard chalk) to eradicate the small ant problem I have. Have you noticed how BIG some of the ants are here. I thought it just sent them crazy as they can’t walk over it and therefore get confused but this chalk I got (from the garage in Thongsala High Street) actually kills the fuckers. Yey!! Sadly Electronic Lounge was very quiet as Bangers & mash had a Halloween party on. I have to say they made some nice decorations for it and it was busy. And my old neighbour from Baantai, Joseph, was back in town. I spent hours unravelling some vines that had grown round a couple of trees in the garden, then cut down a couple as well as they were ugly and not even upright. It was a Catch 22-have ugly trees or see the house in front of me-I chose the latter as I will build a wall in front soon as plant some big bushes. Saturday signalled my first ever night at Eden-crazy I know and I went with Fraser & Kailla and when we arrived we met up with Gam (from Sticky Rice in Srithanu) and her man Tom who were staying the night and had rented a bungalow. It was nice to see Joe and Sabrina (DJ’s Girlfriend) again as it had been a while. I think all the gardening and the gym workout had made me more tired than I thought, and as the German girls who I thought would be there weren’t) I made a move home about 3.30am, just in time as it turned out as the mother of all storms hit a few hours later. I heard the thunder and saw the lightning so should have disconnected my internet but I didn’t, so now it doesn’t work. That will be the third router I have got through then.
