When did you first arrive at KP?
Sandra: I first came here in 2004 for the wedding of my best friend who married a local guy from Bantai.
Then I decided to move to KP in 2007 and started up with my first business, Meli Melo Shop together with my French friend Dominique, until opening Moontribe in 2009.
Jo: I first came to KP in the late nineties, then waited until I sold my eighteen-year-old business back home, and moved completely here in 2003. I first started with a small beach bar at Star Bungalows on Sunset Beach in
Haad Rin, after two years the Thai owner, my old friend Maddy, sold the Bungalow Resort, and together we opened Café Maddy in central Had Rin.
In 2007 together with my Swedish friend Andy we took over Anahata, renovated it, and reopened it for business after having been closed for a few years.
In 2009 I decided it was time to move on and started up our Moontribe business together with Sandra.
How did Moontribe start?
Thanks to our good trusted friends (Jao, Leung, Gai & Jonnie), the owners of these venues, we were the only ones given the rights to use their logos to be included on our products, such as T-Shirts, various clothing items, stickers, key-rings, pendants and so on.
In 2010 we opened our current Store on Bantai main road and in 2011 we decided to stop with the party shops and run our main store only which was a success from the very beginning due to the originality in what we are selling.
What style of clothing can we find in Moontribe?
Our style of Fashion varies from colorful ‘trance party clothing’ to the more ‘elegant styles’ that can be worn ‘back home for a night out.
What separates Moontribe from other clothing shops?
We specialize in importing European labels that are manufactured in Bali by their own western owners/designers, which, due to us being not so far away from Bali, we can retail at cheaper prices than they do by the time they reach the European market.
What is most important for us is that we import and retail good quality products, and ensure that our customers are totally satisfied with what they buy from us, and hence the reason why they come back to visit our store when they return to the Island.
Where are your best customers from?
Our customers come from all four corners of the Globe, either one who already live here or ones who are here on their holidays. We cannot really pinpoint from which particular countries are our best clients since it’s all about their ‘tastes’ in fashion!
What can we expect to find on your shelves in the coming season?
We are always looking for new designs and (Western) brands that suit our Store’s styles and standards for our newcomers and for our return clients to be able to offer them something ‘fresh‘ each time they come back, or ‘Progressive Fashion’ as we like to call it!
