Reefers is a diving center located in Haad Yao on the beach. We met the owner of Reefers Dive Resort and asked him a few questions about his Koh-Phangan life and his school.
Vic, the owner, is a diving instructor from Jersey, who had a few trips around the world and was working as a dive instructor for different companies during that time.
"I first came to Thailand when I was 18 years old and came back a few times usually preferring to stay on Koh Tao, as it is a popular dive destination."- Vic said;
"Then in November 2001 my life changed when I stopped on the island for the full moon party. After this I decided to move to Koh Phangan. I stayed at Mae Haad at first and then moved to Haad Yao. 12 years have passed since that moment".
After 6-7 years of work experience in different dive centers on Koh Phangan Vic decided that it was a good time to open a dive school himself.
"We opened Reefers 6 years ago and 2 years ago we moved to a new and bigger, and much more comfortable building. We have a bar, a kitchen, bungalows, and enough space for rest and relaxation."
To the question; why did you choose the name "Reefers" he answered: "It’s uncommon, nobody used it before and it fits with the islands relaxing atmosphere."
Reefers Diving offers every kind of course from discovery dive to professional instructor courses. They also organize sunset / night boat trips to Ang Tong National Marine Park (2 days, 1 night) and private trips or boat party trips on request.
At Reefers Diving you can find all PADI courses from Beginner to Pro and we have daily dives and snorkling trips to all the best sites in the area.
When we asked him what he thinks makes Reefers special he told us, that he feels they are very serious, professional and safe, but at the same time providing people with a fun, relaxing experience and that is why people come back every time.
Working as PADI Instructors for the past 10 years on Koh Phangan and Koh Tao with over 7,000 dives in the area, Reefers Diving have the perfect team to ensure your best diving experience.
Here on Koh-Phangan we have many local dive sites from Sri Thanu to Chaloklam. Also Sail Rock, Koh Tao, Ang Tong National Marine Park are not that far.
Vic gave a few tips to tourists who want to come and dive on Koh Phangan;
"Diving on Koh-Phangan is less factory style than on Koh Tao neighbor island. It is a bit more expensive but we have a more personal approach which offers you a better quality.
We have more variety as we are located right in the middle so we are flexible and have opportunity to visit most of the dive sites."
The favourite diving spot of Vic is Sail Rock.
"Number 1 for sure! Big variety of fish and good for any level of diving. That is why we need to protect it!"
The last thing we were wondering about was his life philosophy.
"Well, Life Philosophy...Find the way to make the dreams happen. No one else can do it for you!

Discover Scuba Diving
reefersdiving discovery divers
Take the opportunity this holiday to see if you like diving. Let your instructor explain the basic principles of scuba and then take your first underwater breaths. Once comfortable you will dive to a maximum depth of 12m and be amazed just how much there is to see.
This experience can be credited towards the PADI Open Water course.
Scuba Diver
This lifetime certification will enable you to dive anywhere in the world to a depth of 12m and is perfect if you don’t quite have the time to complete the Open Water course.
You will complete some theory work, swimming pool training and 2 open water dives. After this you are half way to achieving the Open Water licence.
Open Water
The most popular diving course in the world!! On completion you will be able to dive independently with your buddy to 18m. Theory, pool skills and 4 open water dives - what are you waiting for?
Bubblemaker (pool only)
Just for the kiddies (8 & 9 years old). Let them have a great few hours and have something to tell their friends at home about.
Their instructor will think of fun things for them to do such as swimming through hoops, and underwater summersaults and break dancing!!
Adventure
Adventures dives include speciality subjects such as Deep, Night, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Multilevel and Computer, Photography, Nitrox and many more. Complete 3 of these dives and achieve the Adventure diver certification, complete 5 and gain the Advanced level licence.
Rescue
For those looking for a little bit of a challenge this course takes you to the next level as a recreational diver. Learn how to prevent and respond to diver problems while your instructors think of fun scenarios for you to react to.
Dive Master
The first professional level. This internship will teach you every aspect of dive leadership. Involving in-depth dive theory, stamina tests, dive site mapping, assisting instructors and dive skill demonstrations. On completion you will have all the knowledge and attributes to be a fantastic dive guide employable worldwide.
