The Public Health Ministry has assured the public that it is fully prepared if Thailand faces a second outbreak of Covid-19 infections in the wake of reappearing cases in several countries.
Deputy Food and Drug Administration Secretary-General Dr Surachoke Tangwiwat confirmed adequate supplies of medicines, pharmaceuticals, personal protective equipment ( PPE) and N95 masks are available for all hospitals nationwide.
The doctor said Thailand currently had 629,122 antiviral drugs Favipiravir pills for 8,900 patients, 33 patients had Remdesivir reserves, 15,000 patients had more than 2,3 million N95 masks, 7,700 patients had more than 1,16 million PPE suits, and 100 days had 45,44 million surgical masks.
There are 45 factories with a face mask capability to produce 3.41 million face masks a day, he said.
Nanthakarn Suwanpidokkul, a government pharmaceutical organization (GPO) specialist, said the GPO now had 590,200 Favipiravir pills and was developing the medicine itself. GPO's Favipiravir was expected to be registered mid-2021, she said.
The GPO and Biotech are working together to conduct research on the raw materials for Favipiravir production. The GPO also works with many sectors in developing and producing vaccines in Thailand and other countries.
