Dj Kara Maehl NoT as Sweet as Candy

At small Trance-Underground Parties Martin Bohata aka DJ Kara_Maehl discovered his passion for electronic music.

Soon infected by "The-Progi-Flow" his attention fell to the progressive sounds and with the passing years his hearing got more and more sharpened for the minimal and electronic sounds.
 

Kara_Maehl has a number of bookings featured in several Swiss clubs and festivals (Labyrinth, Dachkantine, Labitzke, Atmosphere, Timegate, Hive Club, Loop38, Sedel and many more....) and consolidate his place in the Swiss electro and minimal scene. Abroad he drew attention as well and he gets opportunities to perform in Mexico, South Africa (Cape Town and Johannesburg), France (Lyon), Australia (Sidney), Germany, Sri Lanka, Koh Phangan (Full Moon and Halfmoon festival), Czech Republic, Greece and Austria.
 

Since 2007 the native Czech sounds for Echoes Records.

In 2006, driven by curiosity for the development of electronic music he began to produce together with Patrick Sonderegger aka La Baaz (former Paste) their own tracks under the name "La Baaz & Kara_Maehl" .
Against the versatile background of the thoroughbred DJs and some characteristic tracks were born.
They became successful releases on top labels such as Bosphorus Underground, Finetool, Echoes Records, Blue Tunes, Plusquam, Rococo, Echoplast and many more.......

On an experienced foundation Kara_Maehl launched along with La Baaz, the party label KINKY BEATS, which has successfully established in the party scene Switzerland. On the line-up are always international Topacts such as Antix, Piatto, Julian Jeweil, Fiord, Glitter, Minilogue, D-Nox & Beckers, Emok, Mapusa Mapusa, Atmos, Ticon and many more.....
The eponymous compilations of the two Kinky Beats founders, are on the Israeli label Echoes Records and German Plusquam and Echoplast published.

Martins had good connection to this island for a while.
His first visit here was 15 years ago.
Since then he has been travelling the Globe many times and have seen many nice places quite similar to Koh Phangan but even though he seems to be coming back here again and again.

"The parties here are so different to Europe," Martin says.

"Here we dance in the Jungle or on the Beach."
 

Martin is pleased that the music genre changed a bit on the island so it no longer only the PsyTrance Family entertaining!
Now we have Tech and Deep House also!


He has played here many times at the Half Moon Festival and at the Bay Lounge. On Full Moon on Haad Rin Beach, in Back Yard, at Pirates Bar and all over on the other side at Guys Bar!
He has been playing Tech stuff at all of the parties, going on the dex around Boyonic whose Beats seem to harmonize at bit with Kara Maehls!


This time around he was here for the Last 2 Half Moons and Bay Lounge Events!

His current home base is in Zürich Switzerland, around the suburbs of Zürich.

One of the big differences when you play a set here compared to back home is the Sound Systems, Martin Says. “It can be a small challenge of equipment but so much more fun!”
For Phangan this time he brought lots of Tech House and Minimal. Deep House also found room in his bag.


When he wants to relax it will be to some Deep Melancholic Ambient Sounds.
For Martin Melancholy is not absolutely a sad thing. "More something unexplainable," he says.


His best inspirations source for his own productions he claims to be from artists like:
Format B, Max Bett, Slam, Rodriguez Jun, Extrawelt, Oliver Koletzki, Dusk, Fiord, Barem, Julian Jeweil, Sascha Braemer, Oliver Huntemann, Dritte Raum, Trentemoller, Minilogue, Gui Boratto, Sam Paganini, Mos, Popof, D-Nox & Beckers, Gabe, Stephan Bodzin and many more..


Koh Phangan is the perfect spot for Martin.
“Everything is possible here.
You can relax, have great parties, meet crazy people, do some sports. 
This year I had some really nice kite surf sessions on the island….. good wind!”
- and theeeen we have small discussion ... WIND here ???? hahah .. but .. yeee .. maaaaybe ONE week here and there if you are lucky ... – and this he was he said!


Next projects on the horizon is to get home to studio sessions with his friend Patrick ( La Baaz ).They are together organizing their special event series Kinky Beats in Zürich.

He will be in Mexico in May for the Festival Dream and at the Burning Mountain in Swiss for sure.
Furthermore you can be sure to catch him play around in the Clubs in and around Zürich.

What is up with Martins Face?

But what is up with that?
To investigate this matter further we went to his FaceBook page.
Where else to go when one needs personal details on a friend. Or a stranger for that matter.

Well, We are still not sure what to conclude from our investigation but we will gladly share our results with all of you.

And that was not all. We went deeper.
With Sherlock Holmes Hat & Pipe, we dug up our secret ANGLE camera from our spy days and pretended not to even notice Martin in a photo session with his friends Steven & Jung.

In the secret angle on the picture on the left, you clearly see that Martins face apparently always have this theme going on.
It is not only on pictures. Our secret angle camera has proven that by any doubts!
 

In 10 years from now he could either be in Switzerland or Kasachstan, he has no idea and who can blame him!!

Upon asking if his name meant the same in English and Swiss as it does in Danish, I got nothing much but a giggle out of him.
Apparently he is absolutely NOT a Candy or a Camel – but the rest is a well kept secret .. that will only make him giggle.. 

He is such a bad boy that he is afraid his mother lost him long ago. This I guess only his mother knows ..


As a DJ behind the Dex, the strangest he has ever heard requests for where:
Do you know where the toilet is?
Do you sell drinks?
Or maybe drugs?

Not that any of that matters to him though.
All he want to do is this!

He is so Happy with his life as it is that he can “promise” to never stop living this way!!!!
 

Rounding up he can tell us that he have some nice original releases and remixes for Minilogue, Ticon and from Khainz, Duca, Dani Sbert coming out in the next months on different labels like Bosphorus Underground, Sound of Earth and more..

Their second project as LA BAAZ & KARA_MAEHL is more Groovy Techno style.
