The Thai Cabinet approved a proposal for an extension to the state of emergency for a further month from 1 to 30 June 2020.

On 26 May 2020, the extension announcement was further published in the Royal Gazette.

The government also issued reasons for expanding the Kingdom's state of emergency.

IT IS STILL NECESSARY TO ENFORCE THE EMERGENCY DECREE.
- To prevent the spread of COVID-19, officials must be able to adopt centralized measures to curb the spread of infections with unity, speed, and continuity, for the most effective operations.

PREPARATION FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF THE RELAXATION OF LOCKDOWN RESTRICTIONS
- Thailand needs to prepare for the third and fourth phases of the relaxation of lockdown restrictions, concerning business activities that are considered places with a higher risk of disease transmission. - It is necessary to operate in a systematic manner and in an appropriate time to contain the virus.

THAILAND IS STILL AT RISK FROM THE CONTAGION.
- Many countries are still facing severe outbreaks and have a high number of people infected. - An effective vaccine is still at least a year away. - When Thailand lifts all four phases of the strict lockdown measures, it will be necessary to prepare for reopening the country and to set up measures and a crisis management plan in order to reduce the risk of a future outbreak.
