Zip lining is an exhilarating pastime that has recently gained much traction. Look at the faces of the participants, and you'll know what's going on: lots of FUN! (The giant smiles give them away.)

It may look scary, but it is 100% safe and thrilling enough to spice up your day, but not so much that it leaves you frazzled. It's easy, and there are always guides with you helping every step of the way.

History of Zip-Line as An Adventure Sport

Biologists used ziplines to study and explore Costa Rica's deep rainforests in the 1970s. These longer, higher zipline rides allowed the scientists to access the remote and challenging to reach rainforest canopy. Thus, the idea for zipline canopy trips as an adventure activity was born.

Darren Hreniuk, a Canadian who came to Costa Rica in 1992, created canopy tours to raise awareness for reforestation, education, and socio-economic development. As a result, Hreniuk received patent 2532 for an "Elevated Forest Transport System Propelled by Gravity, Using Harness and Pulley Through a Simple Horizontal Line" in October 1998. After 20 years, the patent was renewed, establishing zipline businesses certainty.

What to Expect on a Zip-Line Tour

A canopy tour uses ziplines and aerial bridges to travel across a wooded, typically mountainous area. Many tours tether tourists to cables for safety. Heights range from ground level to trees. Zipline trips are common in premium resorts and outdoor adventure programs, where they may be part of a hike, ropes course or other outdoors activities. Some even include things like  Jeep safari tours around a National Park or camping.

Zip-lining is a fantastic opportunity for thrill-seekers who want to push themselves mentally. In addition, every zip line experience is unique. So, even if you've ziplined before, going to a new place will be like ziplining for the first time again!

Top Reasons You Should Try Zip-Lining

But not everyone is so adventurous. We understand that those who are apprehensive about gliding through the treetops may need some persuasion. That's why we've listed the top reasons you should try ziplining below.

It Provides the Opportunity to Bond With Family and Friends

Individuals often bond by the rush of adrenaline and the excitement of taking on a new challenge together. So try it out with your daring family members or friends. It's also an excellent idea for a date or a team-building exercise. If you're nervous about participating, bringing along a friend or two can ease your anxiety.

Create Moments That You'll Never Forget

Moments are the priceless treasures of our lives. Some are etched in your consciousness because of their poignancy, while others are awe-inspiring. Zipline is a great way to create such everlasting memories. Whatever your reason for participating, you're sure to have a memorable time, whether you do it alone or with loved ones.

Feel The Rush of Soaring Like a Bird

If, as a child, you fantasized about being able to soar like a bird – or Superman! – zip lining is the pastime for you. But even if you've never dreamed of having the ability to fly, this is an experience you won't soon forget. Zip lining through the forest is like nothing else you've experienced.

View the World from a Different Perspective

An aerial view of the landscape is unsurpassed. Seeing the environment from a different vantage point can allow you to appreciate nature in a way you have never done before. When else will you see the tops of the trees or the horizon completely unobstructed?

There is No Requirement to be Physically Fit

You don't need to get fit before zip lining because it's not competitive or physically demanding. Therefore, the zipline is a great sport for people who don't want to deal with the exhaustion and soreness that usually accompanies sports. For example, most ziplining requires a short walk to get started. Thereafter, it's just gravity gliding you down the track.
