A report from Brazil showed that former dengue patients have a low risk of dying from Covid-19, Thailand could be luckier than other nations.
Dr. Manoon Leechawengwongs cited studies reported on medRxiv that show that dengue antibodies can improve Covid-19 immunity.
He said that every year, Thailand has more than 100,000 dengue admissions, and many Thais take the tuberculosis BCG vaccine to prevent dengue infections.
This, he said, may clarify why, here, there are many fewer cases of Covid-19 than in other nations.
However, Manoon added, to stop a second round of diseases, individuals do need to adopt prevention steps, like carrying face masks, washing hands and keeping social distance.
