All of Thailand's provinces are officially prohibiting the selling of all alcoholic drinks at least until midnight next week to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, authorities said on Sunday.

Governor Aswin Kwanmuang of Bangkok and the Governors of all 76 provinces, who are concurrently responsible for the administration of the situation at the provincial level, have separately directed for the time being a total ban on the retail and wholesale trade of alcoholic drinks, covering the suspended Songkran festival scheduled for next Monday to Wednesday, according to the official.

The time period during which alcoholic alcohol sales are prohibited obviously differs across various jurisdictions, officials said.

The ban would take effect in 27 provinces, including Pattaya, until the end of this month and in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and 18 other provinces until April 20.
