Handmade clothes for women & men designed by Katai and David
Since October 2009 Khattaya design has developed their style and quality on Phangan and today they reach a point where The Khattaya Shop is a *MUST SEE* on Koh Phangan for any tourists on a shopping spree!!
Katai and David have one Shop in Bantai - just around Ban Sabaii and they just opened another one in Bangkok at the week-end Market : Chatuchak .
Their style is a mix between gypsy, vintage, happy hippie & little punk.
Where ever you go to party on Phangan you will meet at least one - if not more - wearing Khattaya Design.
- and not only on Phangan.
At many festivals through Europe and Asia Khattaya Design will be dancing on the dancefloors .. A good design with a good vibe ))
The picture on the left is from the Danish Electronic Carneval called Karmavalg and the sweet girls Anna and Helena are both wearing Khattaya Design.

What is your Koh Phangan story?
I arrived 1979 after I quit a job I had in Bangkok. I was just looking for a basic job when I meet Eri, who now has the Miracle Cafe by Wat Po in Ban tai - and from here the story begins .. ))
Koh Phangan is special to me.
I learn a lot about people here. There is so many different people here ..
It is very inspiring and very interesting.
I believe in the end it is very good to meet so many different people in one spot.
This way you learn how people connect with eachother between differences ...
You learn to recognise friends and "family" in a different way and you learn to accept differences and enjoy the colorful ray that it really is.
I am not an eight to four person and here I found the chance to live like I want ..
I can go to the beach, see many friends, I can party and still have my business going strong.
And since all of my family are tailors, it is kind of natural that I went this way too .... it is in my genes.. and here I had a chance to try it out in an environment that I enjoyed.
Now the business is flowering and I feel very happy to be here!
What do you feel you bring to Phangan design scene?
I bring Handmade clothes which is different from the factory custom made. It is all the same. Like this, it becomes unique clothing.
- and of course the quality is better when you get it done excatly as you want it!
What is the best thing you ever been involved with or done?
This was a Fashion show in Austria in 2008!
It was the sweet Mario who helped me make this happen!
He fixed everything for me! Three months in Austria and Turkey all together!
This was really fun and good for me!!
Do you find Koh Phangan to be a good place for your Designs?
It has been hardder to find the right audience in Bangkok f.ex ...
My designs seem to attract the freak family more than the ordinary ))
Where is your favourite place here on Phangan?
Tong Nai Pan!
I like it is more anonymos over there, much more private and not so people that I know soo I can keep my peace a bit longer!
Of course also because of the really beautifull beaches and hiiiigh waters that we never get here in Ban Tai .. It is very good for swimming ))
What are your next projects?
Next collection will be a lot of leather mixed designs ..
Girly style with lots of laces ... of course still keeping the concept with little bits of Punk and Hippie, Khattaya colour scheme and lots of ripped shirts, skirts and tights ))
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I hope my life is good and happy of course and that I will get an opportunity to make a few months in a temple a year.
I like to make a simple quiet life and still make clothes the rest of the times..
That is my wish - now the future will show ))
