Phanganist went along to meet with Visal Surunthawong and Narisa who were part of what you may call a ‘dental drive’ here on Koh Phangan.

We were sent by one of the organisers P'Oae from IBC Law.

The location of the day was near Loyfa Resort in SriThanu and everything was up and running for the community!

Smile for Everyone is a foundation from America, in certain dentists in North America, around 3000 of them, they have donation boxes where the funds go to help in developing Countries with dental outreach care.

In Southeast Asia they chose Thailand as the host and treat people from Thailand, Myanmar and Laos.

All of the equipment is donated and they also support with a small amount of money yet they still have to get sponsors.

The help is given to the Christian community to organise and they spread the word through the local church and all of the help is free of charge.

There is a doctor who is leader of the project and 3 dentists from around Thailand, one is Thai but works in Australia, she used her own money to come and help and will fly back to Australia afterwards. One dentist from Yala province drove his car to Hat Yai, flew to Bangkok as they are supported by Bangkok Airways and flew from Bangkok to Samui then took a ferry to Phangan, it was a very long journey but shows how much people want to help this cause.

“All of these dentists usually work in bright clinics with air conditioning etc usually but they are so happy to help and they feel refreshed afterwards”.

The dental outreach helps around 300 people in total and they offer all kinds of treatment from scaling, pulling, filling, extracting and minor operations. Everyone involved is a volunteer!
