It is with sadness that we learn of the passing of Rob Mcmanus also known to islanders as Irish Rob.

Originally from Ireland, a small seaside village, Rob Mcmanus had an uncle who played guitar and taught him a lot of songs. He also had friends in school who were guitar players so he just fell into it.

Rob was a regular at The Jam bar as well as playing at Soho and other live music nights around the island.

Rob was living in Singapore working in finance and came to Phangan for a two week holiday for the Christmas period in 2011 but ended up staying for a few years after this.

Phanganist were lucky enough to make an interview with him about his music which you can read here.

Rob also had a bar in Thong Sala for a while called Oasis with regular party nights which were popular with locals.

He will be remembered by many for his infectious humour, friendly smiles and energy and of course his music.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends, RIP XX
