Taboon Cafe and Restaurant : Welcome to the Middle East on Koh Phangan...

20 years ago, Guy Newman, the owner of TABOON came to Koh Phangan the first time and fell in love with the island as many other travelers did before him and still do.
He moved to Haad Salad on the west coast of Phangan 4 years ago

Israeli born and raised, with Polish and Iraqi backgrounds (his father is Polish and his mother from Iraq), he wanted to bring the Middle East specialties to Koh Phangan and that is how the TABOON Café and Restaurant opened in March 2015. It was under construction for only a month and a half before opening.

He is teaming up with his partner Carla who is from Canada and has been living in Sri Thanu for the last 3 years. Their wish was to bring the people together, sharing food while enjoying in a nice atmosphere.

As Guy and Carla say; "The best words to describe the restaurant are "Good Vibes" .

The restaurant exudes of love & spirituality.
Cozy décor with soft lighting, red color ranges and a lounge area that makes you feel that you are in a secluded and special place

Bossa nova and lounge music in the daytime convey quietness while enjoying your breakfast or lunch, your fresh coffee or sipping your hot tea.
Sitar and Middle East music in the evening will enchant your dining experience.

With an Israeli Chef, they create a vegetarian menu with Middle East specialties such as sambusak, shakshuka, sabih and hummus.

The oven is the central part of the restaurant and "TABOON" means “oven” in Hebrew. They bake their own bread every day!

Guy told us, that he feels the oven,  -or the TABOON symbolizes the Earth. The bottom is the ground where all life originates from, the middle represents the feminine energy and the top is the beginning of the experience of love.

Guy was a Shepard for over 12 years in Israel. He prefers cooking with only permaculture growth and organic products made on Koh Phangan.

The restaurant propose two different menus: one menu from 7 am until 5 pm with breakfast, shakshuka, sandwich, salads, sweets… and the evening menu from 5 pm until 11 pm with their specialties, dips, sambusak, shakshuka, sabih.

To summarize Taboon, ONLY LOVE.
