Koh Samui is Koh Phangan’s larger neighbour, Samui is the largest and most developed island of the three islands in the Gulf of Thailand. It is also the closest to the mainland.
Koh Samui has its own airport and so you may arrive to the island by air or you may want to stop and visit before heading on to Koh Phangan.
To get to Koh Phangan from Koh Samui you’re only option is by ferry...unless you want to swim by we wouldn’t recommend that!
The ferry company piers closest to the airport air Seatran and Lomprayah. Other ferry companies running from Samui to Phangan are Songserm and Raja.
If you wish to travel with your car or motorbike between the islands then it would be the Raja ferry you need to travel with. The boats are large and transport vehicles but take longer, 1.5 hours.
The Raja ferry operates from Lipa Noi Pier and the boat times are: 7am, 9am, 12noon, 2pm and 6pm.
Travelling with the other companies will only take 30-40minutes and some ferries are very quick with a modern catamaran service.
Lomprayah operates from Pralarn Pier and Nathon Pier.
Boats to Koh Phangan from Pralarn Pier are 8am and 12.30pm and take 20 - 30 minutes.
From Nathon Pier the times are 11:15, 13:30 and 17:30, this boat takes half an hour.
The Seatran ferry operates from Bangrak Pier and times are 8am, 1pm and 4.30pm.
Songserm use the Nathon Pier on Koh Samui and the times are 11.30am & 5.30pm.
Another option if you want an exclusive service or if there are no boats running is to get a private speedboat service. Bear in mind that this is much more expensive than normal ferries.
