In this Covid-19 scenario, the Thai Cabinet authorized a one-year extension of a program to assist underprivileged individuals with their power and tap water bills, government deputy spokeswoman Ratchada Thanadirek said yesterday (September 22) in a Facebook message.

From October 2020 until September 2021, the program will be expanded.

It is estimated that this initiative would benefit 13.9 million state welfare card holders nationally, or around 8 million households. However, on one power bill and one water bill only, each household is entitled to the subsidy a month, she added.

For households who use less than 50 units each month, electricity fees are waived. The state assistance card pays up to Bt230 (P354) of the bill per household if it's above 50 units. Households shall compensate any sum in excess of this number.

Bt100 (P154) of tap water bills per household each month also protects the state welfare card.
