Koh Tao is the smallest of the 3 islands here in the Gulf and is most famous for diving and has a very laid back vibe and retains a certain charm as it is not too developed. Koh Tao offers many great things like lots of bars and restaurants, jungle trekking, rock climbing, cliff jumping, many different water sports, stunning beaches and amazing sunsets.
Koh Tao is the furthest away if coming from Surat Thani (Donsak Pier) on the mainland but is closest if you get a boat from Chumphon on the mainland.
The only way to get to Koh Phangan from Koh Tao is by boat.
The ferry companies operating from Koh Tao are Songserm, Seatran and Lomprayah. Lomprayah is the fastest boat as it is a high speed catamaran. They offer two trips a day, at 9.30am and 3pm. Lomprayah leaves from Koh Tao’s Mae Haad pier and brings you to Koh Phangan’s Thong Sala pier. Ticket prices are 500 to 660 Baht and so is the most expensive option.
Seatran Discovery also runs three ferries a day (6.30am, 9am and 3pm) departing from Mae Haad in Koh Tao and arriving to Thong Sala on Koh Phangan an hour and a half later. Seatran is a bit cheaper 430 Baht.
Songserm is the slowest service but the cheapest way to get to Koh Phangan from Koh Tao. The journey takes two hours and costs 350 Baht. There is only one boat a day at 9.30am whichgets to Koh Phangan at 11.30am.
