United Medical Center is a clinic with locations in Haad Rin and Baan Tai, it was founded by Patrick's wife Namfon, Dr New and Pat. Patrick has been on Koh Phangan since 2014 and in 2015 he met his now-wife at the hospital where he was working, they have now been married for 4 years.
As they both were working in Medical facilities here, they observed and experienced the medical side of the island and came to the conclusion that they wanted to set up their own clinic. To provide good healthcare with fair prices to the community, both ex-pats and tourists.
Patrick’s part in the clinic is to help the patients go through a smooth process with their insurance providers.
After searching for the right person for a long time they found their partner, Dr New, who is a specialist (surgeon).
What services do you offer?
We provide almost all medical standard procedures such as all kinds of blood tests, wound care, referral to hospitals, diagnoses and not to forget that everyone can contact us 24/7 via Facebook messenger for free online consultations.
How have you been affected by the pandemic?
The timing for opening UMC couldn’t have been any worse as it was January 2020. So now we struggle from month to month to keep the clinic running.
What are the most common things people come for?
It depends on the situation. Now, people mostly come for std tests, health checks and covid tests. Before the pandemic, it was more AGE, dengue, drug/alcohol overdose and all kinds of fractures and wounds.
How can people stay healthy and safe on Koh Phangan?
The most important point is to have insurance. It's not easy to choose the correct one though. Now in these times also people should use a mask, social distance and get a vaccine once available. And the usual tip is: wear a helmet and drive slow.
United Medical Center are one of the small businesses compared to the big providers on this island and they want to say a big thank you to the remaining foreigners who still choose them.
