A central hospital in Thailand is now adding weed to the spa restaurant menu. At the Chaophraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital in Prachin Buri, the Abhaibhubejhr Day Spa serves patients dishes and drinks prepared with marijuana leaves.
Asala Chaocharoen, one of the pharmacists at the hospital, says that they developed the menu item using 1 to 2 marijuana leaves in a dish.
In addition to helping them sleep and feel good, such dishes put customers in a relaxing and good mood.
But as she says 5 to 8 leaves a day should be the maximum to consume as it can cause drowsiness, she is warning those who over-medicate.
On January 6th, the cannabis dishes were rolled out and included spicy soup, fried fish, and fried bread with a spread of minced pork. Customers could drink marijuana soda to wash it all down. In the coming days, the legality of the additives may indeed attract the attention of the authorities.
Elsewhere in Thailand, by testing various strains and levels of THC and CBD, the psychoactive and medicinal elements of marijuana, Maejo University is gearing up to join the world market for marijuana. It recently witnessed the handing over of the pharmaceutical facility of Khon Kaen University of 400 kilograms of the plant to be processed and developed into medicine under a project that began in 2019.
The value of 400 tonnes of marijuana per kilogram is 16 million baht or 40,000 baht. A spokesperson for Maejo University says Thai marijuana used to be among the best in the world, but Thailand wants to catch up with the market as other countries legalized the plant.
With the hope of being able to develop more cannabis products in the future, the university is also developing many strains of marijuana that have a lower amount of THC as well as hemp. Rules and regulations are still being finalized as of now, so those in the public who want to join the industry will not have to wait much longer.
