Gaia Nature Spa is newly opened in the area of Maduwan near to the entrance of Kao Ra. It is a one of a kind venue which offers a magical atmosphere in serene nature.
They have of course a Herbal Steam Sauna which uses local organic herbs that will make your entire being melt and relax, followed by a refreshing cool-down in an iced plunge pool, showers or cold water tanks.
After all your troubles are long forgotten, you can replenish your liquids and recover energy in their bar supplied with healthy organic drinks and snacks.
Unusually, Gaia’s parking area is situated two to three minutes walk from the actual spa, this means you can unwind and prepare yourself as you take a beautiful small walk to the entrance of the venue.
As you walk through the large but unemposing gates you are transported to a serene space and greeting area. There, you can use the changing rooms, sinks and toilets and feel the already special energy of Gaia.
The spa is connected by wooden walkways which are magically lit up to guide your way, first to the sauna and plunge pool, then to the showers and through to the relaxation and social area where they have calming fire and a healthy bar for you to enjoy through the evening.
Tomas who owns Gaia was inspired to open the Spa through his own love of using the sauna. He already enjoys the saunas on Koh Phangan and says himself that they are all good but wanted to combine the best qualities into one space.
“Some have a good atmosphere, others a swimming pool etc and I wanted to combine the elements for myself, friends and the public to enjoy”.
Tomas and his team have worked on the whole space, he gives credit to his friend Robert who is from Slovakia like himself, for helping with the decoration of Gaia Nature Spa.
Tomas has been on the island for 12 years and is ‘still happy’, from a business point of view he also has knowledge of the island itself and how things operate however Gaia Nature Spa comes really from his love of the sauna which he wants other people to enjoy.
Great effort is made with their sauna, the herbs are changed every second day using local ingredients such as galangal, turmeric, ginger, citronella and cinnamon. There can be up to 13 ingredients.
“We study it all very carefully and try ourselves to find good combinations, we also have a Thai friend to help with the knowledge and properties of the herbs”.
As well as the plunge pool to use afterwards there are showers and the more traditional Thai style water tanks. You can then wander down to relax near the fire area and chill.
At the small bar they sell coconuts, soda and teas such as butterfly pea and roselle plus a table offering free things like infused water, fruit and other interesting elements.
Gaia Nature Spa will continue to evolve, they are building a Finnish Sauna and a 6 by 6 swimming pool, Tomas says the idea is to have 3 saunas in total.
Going to the Sauna is a great way to detoxify yourself, but it is also beneficial for injuries or muscle pain which is excellent for our active island reknowned for yoga and other sports and also after dancing all night at a party.
“When you come out you can smell the aromatic herbs still for a couple of days, you’ll have soft skin and hair and it is great for the immune system”.
Gaia Nature Spa is open for adults only from 6pm to Midnight, go immerse yourself in beautiful relaxation, your body and mind will thank you.
