Before coming to Thailand I spent 6 weeks travelling and experiencing India. The first party advertisement that popped into my eyes when I arrived on Koh Phangan was ‘Shiva Moon’ and I immediately knew that I couldn’t miss out on that one!
Pre-party in the Phanganist Hostel
At Phanganist Hostel, every evening is a pre-party evening! Shiva moon took place on a Thursday evening, so the weekend was coming closer and the place was filling up with a motivated crowd. We enjoyed beers and buckets from the bar while chilling at the pool with hostel guests and other travelers who just dropped in. It never gets boring here since the staff arrange fun drinking games that make it easy to meet new friends, even if you are traveling by yourself. You can always join a beer pong tournament or team up for a round of pool!
Getting to Shiva Moon
At midnight it was time to leave the hostel to get to the party.
Shiva moon is located less than 10 minutes away and we simply arranged transport at the reception of the hostel in advance. That is the most convenient, stress-free, cheap and reliable way to get to parties around the island. If you have rented a scooter you can easily drive there by yourself as well, but keep in mind that drinking and driving is not an option! The entrance ticket costs 500 bath (including a free drink) if you arrive after 10pm and 300 baht if you arrive earlier than that. I had received a promotion voucher on a party the night before that gave me a discount of 100 bath, so I paid 400 bath entrance (excluding a free drink). Shiva Moon vibes
Have you ever been to a party in the middle of the jungle? Shiva moon is located off the main street in the forest which gives the party a special kick. It hosts great DJs and is a paradise for any psy trance enthusiast. At earlier stages of the night the music is more progressive while it’s turning more and more into dark psy trance the later it gets. I had never been to a psy trance party and was not sure what I was getting myself into, but once there I was immediately flashed by the decoration, the music and the vibes of the party. Creative artists had contributed to the mystic and still funky atmosphere by creating a unique scenery. You could find neon-colored paintings of Indian gods and goddesses, wicked wall and stage arts and a visual effect screen. I instantly felt elevated and motivated to dance. It was not overcrowded, however it got busier after 1am. The music can get quite loud and although my ears are not overly sensitive I was glad that one of my friends from the hostel had brought an extra pair of earplugs that I could use! Conclusion
I had a great time at the party and if you love Psy trance or simply want to try out something new, I would definitely recommend you to experience a Shiva Moon
party during your stay in Koh Phangan!
