Cortex first came to the island 4 years ago and began getting involved with different parties such as Waterfall Party and Sandcastle where he was resident.
After this he moved to Samui to work for Elephant Beach Club in Chaweng for one year before going back to France to finish up some work so he could return to Koh Phangan.
“When I came back I wanted to come back properly and with my sound system. There are many parties here but it’s very different from Europe so this is why I have now opened my events agency along with my sound system”.
Tell us about ‘Sound in Motion’ your events company...
It’s an event company and right now we are working every day in Moonhouse in Haad Rin, we have been there for about 3 months every single day. We play Deep House, Tech House and Techno and because we do this every day we now want to take our sound system and make big events once a week.
I’m just waiting to get everything ready to start organising this, we’d like to take it to many places like Surat Thani, Koh Tao, Samui and others.
When did you start to DJ?
I’ve played for 16 years now and started when I was 14 as my Father was a DJ before me!
How did you begin your career?
In the South of France we have really good clubs for Techno and Underground music, we would go to the big underground clubs and I started to play in Montpelier then I moved to Cannes and met my friend Vinz and we have now played together for 10 years.
Why do you two fit so well together as DJs?
I come Thailand 4 years ago and really liked it here as it is a beautiful island where many people come for the music and parties, I asked Vinz to come for 3 years but he never time until 5 months ago! I made my event agency but it is hard to do it alone, I can’t do everything so now he helps.
We have made a collective together and we play together, maybe now we will make a name together and get some gigs in different countries as a collective.
You’ll play on Wednesday at Phanganist Hostel with your sound system, what will you bring?
We plan to play Tech House, I think our music is really different from what you hear on Phangan. We travel a lot and go to different festivals in Mexico, Spain etc, some of the biggest in the world. We are different as every time I make the flyers, the events and bring the sound system, for every party we bring our signature style.
I think if you want a big party then you need to do everything yourself as you could have the best DJ but if you have bad lights or bad organisation then it won’t be good. Sometimes I go to parties and they have a good DJ and the place is amazing but it’s not as professional as it could be.
What are your hopes for the next few years?
Now we have our music studio here so we want to produce music a lot because in our home country of France we worked a lot and didn’t have time. Now we have a really good studio and lots of time.
I rent my studio out also, last week I had a big team from Berlin and they rented it to make thier new album.
Tell us about your sound system...
It’s from Germany, it’s one of the best in Phangan if not the best! I waited 3 months to get it. It’s DB Technologies,
This sound system is high quality, the sub, the bass, the high, you can hear immediately on Wednesday what the difference is.
What do you enjoy about Phangan when you’re not working?
We are working everyday but we go to the beach in Than Sadet, Slip N Fly and jet ski when we have time.
What would be your advice for upcoming DJs?
For me it’s to share your music with the people, you give them something and they give back.
Keep the originality, don't try to do the same, don't choose the easy way, it should be very personal what you like.
