Visitors of Koh Phangan, we’re sure that many of you like us feel extremely lucky to be on the island at this moment of our lifetime. However, if gatherings like this one continue then Koh Phangan will turn into a situation like the rest of the world. A not so comfortable one.
Most of your friends or family cannot even leave the house, we are lucky here to have a bit more freedom at least during the daytime, for now. It is situations like this one that will cause more strict restrictions for foreigners here.
No one is saying that you shouldn’t go to the beach, get some fresh air or exercise but a congregation like this should not have happened, it should be enough sense to see this and avoid it. Even seeing 5 people in one spot would surely make you reconsider your choice of location? Why not continue and drive to a part of the beach that no one else is on to enjoy?
The island is extremely quiet so there are many places you can relax which are not near to others.
Now we know that some of you do not live here all year round, you were meant to be enjoying your holiday and still have your ‘holiday brain mode’ switched on. But not even wearing a mask?
This is really disrespecting the Thai culture and the rules they have put in place for this time and disrupts the balance that island long-termers have to work hard to maintain and get respect for.
Koh Phangan is a safe place to be right now but it will only continue to be this peaceful safe place if EVERYONE does their bit and respects social distancing, wears masks and limits their time out in public.
No one is taking away your freedom more than necessary. You just need to wise up a little, it’s going to take the effort of everyone to protect this beautiful place. We call this island Magic but for once, and hopefully not for long, this magic island needs the help of every single human that rests their head on it.
Please follow the rules and keep safe.
