Tourists are now heading to Thailand's beaches and islands with the danger of coronavirus diminishing every day.
Secretary of the Trat Tourism Association, Saksit Mungkarn, said he hoped to see around 5,000 visitors come to the island this weekend. He said the island is ready to accept tourists, but certain businesses will remain closed because more time is required to plan for reopening.
"On the first day, we see 200 visitors already coming," Saksit said. "This number does not involve about one thousand international visitors stranded on the island."
Saksit said the latest waves of visitors should be couples, as opposed to the pre-epidemic young travellers that were the biggest focus category.
Deputy mayor of Koh Chang Teerasak Damrongcheep said business owners would stay concerned regarding visitors and the signs of workers returning. Visitors will wear face masks and hold travel background recorded in on the Thai Chana website of the government, he added.
Some visitors in Chonburi province still return to beaches, media reports reported.
After a two-month shutdown in the wake of travel restrictions and lockout steps for coronavirus, several hotels across Thailand are cutting their rates to lure local tourists.
Some Bangkok hotels also sell packages for homeless Bangkokians who are sick of self-isolation.
