Hong Kong is negotiating the "travel bubble" concept with Thailand and Japan.
Hong Kong's Chief of Commerce, Edward Yau, says there is again talking with the authorities in Thailand and Japan about the potential of the "travel bubbles" concept.
The talks were postponed when Hong Kong faced a third outbreak of the Covid-19 virus last month.
Currently, the possibility of mutually favorable travel plans is back on the table, negotiating check protocols for all ways to scan travelers for the virus.
It was published on Bangkok Post that Hong Kong's Chief of Commerce made the declaration when presenting at a webinar. He says the talks with Thailand and Japan are at a more advanced level.
"It could be some time before some plans are placed in motion, as all the countries concerned continue to track the pandemic's progress."
He stated that travelers would have to take "mutually recognized" Covid-19 examinations, and the test results would be submitted by the airlines to the destination country for clarification before they could fly.
After a moratorium on foreign arrivals imposed in March, during the height of the Covid-19 epidemic regionally, Hong Kong was unable to receive any foreign tourists.
Hong Kong is currently emerging from a third outbreak of the virus. Last month was a significant surge in new cases with a record of more than 100 new cases a day for 12 days. However, despite reintroducing several limits, including restaurants that only sell take-away food until 6 pm, figures have started dropping again.
