A spokesman for the State Insurance Commission in Thailand says that all foreign arrivals in the Kingdom will need Covid-19 insurance cover. Suthipol Taweechaikarn says the insurance will have to cover people for the duration of their visit and that online purchases will be made available for various packages.
Coconuts report that, depending on where they live, travellers from countries considered low-risk for Covid-19 can expect to pay anything from 1,600 baht to over 43,000 baht. Packages range from under 30 days to one year, with 16 Thai insurance companies selling online coverage. These include the Cross of the Pacific, Muang Thai and Viriyah. In the event of death from the disease, foreign arrivals will need coverage of up to 3.2 million baht to cover medical treatment, in addition to possible funeral expenses or to transport their remains home.
Government officials discussed a number of options for a limited reopening of borders but nothing has been confirmed as of now. One proposal is to allow the "snowbirds" to return, as long-term visitors escape the European winter. Phuket is proclaimed a pilot destination, with arrivals having to quarantine for 14 days before travelling around the island. If they wish to travel beyond Phuket province, they will need to add an additional 7 days to that quarantine period.
