The reason people come to Koh Phangan is because it is a beautiful tropical Thai island, it’s paradise, especially compared to where most guests live.
Escaping the city life to experience what they have only ever seen in pictures, making a dream a reality.
But for this island to remain a paradise it must be treated kindly and with respect.
If you fall in love with Phangan as most people do then you will want it to stay idyllic forever and for this we must be conscious and have concern for the environment here. Something you should do wherever you travel in the world.
So what can you do to be kind while you're here?
Care and have respect for wildlife
Don’t take or move anything (including stray dogs!) nature here knows what to do and all have their homes.
Don’t Litter
Many of you would not litter in your home countries so don’t do it here either! There are no people or companies that will come and clean up after you!
Stop or cut down on using one-use items
These include straws, take away boxes, plastic cutlery etc etc… refuse them when in 7-11 or put them back if they are automatically given. Buy some cheap containers and a reusable straw which are widely available here and keep them on you for use here.
Clean the beach
Everytime you go with your friends to the beach don’t just take home your own rubbish but collect a couple of bags of stuff that’s there too! Every little helps and it’s a great way to get a tan.
Eat Local
Thai food and ingredients from local markets are amazing! Eating local helps cut down on your environmental footprint as the food does not have to travel far like imported goods.
You don’t have to be a superhero to make a difference, all you have to do is be a normal person doing the right thing. Every choice you make can impact everything around you more than you can ever imagine. The decisions you make can affect the lives of communities and the environment for a long time.
It takes nothing to be kind.
