Koh Samui is well known worldwide for its vibrant party scene and famous in Thailand for its fantastic nightlife. People come from all over the world to revel in its wealth and the variety of discos, clubs and beer bars it provides.
There is definitely a degree of vanity to the nightlife here but there is also a more casual relaxed vibe depending where you go. The range spans from buckets of cheap whisky and cheap beer to sophisticated gourmet restaurants and lounges; as well as from traditional thai dancing performances to mud wrestling ladies boxing bouts.
Here, you can party in style or in flip-flops and a t-shirt and you can just sip on a beer on the beach or you can watch a famous transgender cabaret show, which is always a big hit! The list of possibilities of things you can do once the sun goes down is tremendously long.
The nightlife on the beaches of Chaweng will surely entertain the wildest party animals and enthusiastic party goers. Chaweng is the longest beach on the island. During the day it is open to the usually chilling beach day activities, but at night it transforms into a whole other beast. Some of the most popular party venues are located here and it is where people come when they want to party the night away until the sun rises. There is everything here from transvestite cabaret to fancy beach clubs to chill-out bars. Chaweng will satisfy all the party people on the island that never sleep!
The nightlife in Lamai is second biggest to Chaweng. It features many entertainment options, such as trendy clubs and bars, all fit to satisfy party goers on this gorgeous island.
The nightlife in Bophut is casual and relaxed. Here, you can spend a chill evening with friends, having drinks and chatting away in a relaxing friendly atmosphere. This area is where you can find great restaurants and bars away from the hustle and bustle of Lamai and Chaweng. There are no lady bars or disco’s here. It's where you go when you want to go out but you just want a tranquil environment. It is very suitable for family or friend get togethers.
Apart from partying, theres night shopping in Bophut. Every friday the town hosts a walking street market where street vendors load up their stalls with goodies and the place is buzzing with shoppers and street performers. You’ll be able to find things like handbags, jewelry, 100-baht t-shirts, sunglasses and many more interesting items to serve as unique souvenirs. Even if you don't want to buy anything, it’s a lot of fun to go and look!
Another calm and relaxing spot is Maenam. The beaches here are well known for their peaceful tropical beachfront holiday style. If you want to get rid of the hustle and bustle at night, red-light or discos, this is where you want to go. There are great pubs for sports, pool games, and even sophisticated lounge bars in this part of the island.
