It’s not our favourite place to shop but we all have to visit 7-Eleven once in awhile don’t we and you must of recently noticed those funny little stickers they’re giving you with your change if you buy more than just beer and cigarettes (these are not in the promotion).
But what are they for??!! The promotion began on July 26th and for every 50 Baht you spend you get a sticker worth 1 Baht. If you buy a particular item then you get a sticker for 3 Baht!
What you can do is either just use the stickers for their monetary value, if you’re short of 5 Baht you can use 5 of your stickers for example.
Or… you can save them up in one of the sticker books to then claim different items from the Sanrio and LINE friends range! You do have to spend quite a lot in 7-Eleven to get enough stickers though.
Apparently there are more discounts, deals and free stuff that us foreigners probably don’t know about so maybe if you have a Thai friend you could get the low down from them.
Our feature contributor Chris made a fun little poem;
‘Stickers are fun, stickers are great
Get them in morning or really really late,
Get a green frog or get a blue bunny
This sticker game is really quite funny.
Get a toastie, some nuts and some juice to wash it down
During sticker season, even the 7/11 staff have less of a frown (kind of!)
Stickers are fun, stickers are great
I only need 700,000 to win a chair, so someone hook me up mate!’
Very clever….
Photographer Russell says ‘I didn’t know what they were for, someone told me. I know there’s a big sign in the window and you can save up the tickets for special items like toothpaste and things. It’s better to save up until the end to get the better objects’
Most of us will just end up with a pile of them at home or in our purse but you can always stick them on the big sheets up inside the 7-Eleven’s and apparently they give them to charity so at least they’re not going to waste. We quite enjoy just the simple process of sticking the stickers in the book (easily pleased).
We asked Sharon what he thought;
‘It’s a tradition for Koh Phangan locals every year and it’s always kinda fun. I’ve never got to get a prize as I always miss the end date. This one is meant to end in November according to what we know but if anyone knows anything else then please share this info with us!’.
You may find it annoying or you may find it fun but no matter what, if you spend some Baht in 7-Eleven then you’re going to get given these funny little things. You can always give them to a Thai person, they like them and seem to know how to make the best use out of them so just go with it and enjoy the little 7-Eleven sticker game!
