It comes as as much of a shock to us as it does to you all that October's Full Moon Party has now been cancelled. All celebrations of any kind will cease from October 1st in respect to the Royal Cremation.
There had been a meeting on September 17th confirming it will go ahead but the decision was changed yesterday by the Thai Government as they thought it would be more appropriate to start the mourning from the beginning of the month.
This is a historic moment for the country and people of Thailand.
One year ago when the King passed away the Full Moon Party was cancelled yet it was still a beautiful time, one of mourning from the local community yet peace and celebration just on a much quieter scale. Tourists still gathered on the famous Haad Rin beach, candles were lit in remembrance and it was a beautiful time to see the combination and togetherness of the Thai Community and visitors to the island.
Koh Phangan is still expecting a large number of people because of the late cancellation so the island will still be alive. People will gather together, socialising will carry on, the island's nature does not go anywhere and Koh Phangan without music is actually a wonderful place to be and spend time on.
Our thoughts are with the Thai Community at this sad time.
Koh Phangan is an island in the Gulf of Thailand, Southeast Asia, it is the 2nd largest of three (Koh Samui and Koh Tao).
The island gained its fame from the world renowned Full Moon Party which is held once a month on Haad Rin Beach and attracts thousands of visitors. In recent years Koh Phangan has grown in reputation for being a paradise getaway for families and couples as well as young people thanks to the diversity of the island as a whole.
The West side boasts many yoga schools and spiritual retreats, the North is where you will find the divers and scattered throughout are watersports, jungle treks, viewpoints, waterfalls, restaurants and all you could hope for as a tourist or expat.
Big white bounty beaches and palms as far as the eyes can reach. Small cafés with both local and foreign food and drinks. Resorts, hotels and hostels available for the continuously coming tourists. Koh Phangan has everything for all tastes. Read more...
