So you’ve decided you’re coming to Koh Phangan for sure! Before you reserve a seat on a flight here are a few tricks to getting the cheapest ticket you can. We want you to be able to save all the money you can on your flight over so you can have that extra cash for having fun while you’re here!
These tips will help you to find the best low cost flight every time:
Book seven weeks ahead of time for short distances
Yes, seven weeks exactly oddly enough is the best time to book for short distance trips. So if your flying in from nearby, maybe flying from somewhere else in Southeast Asia to Koh Samui or Surat Thani, do it 7 weeks in advance.
Book 18 weeks ahead of time for long distances
If you’re flying from afar like Europe, or the Americas, book your flight 18 weeks ahead of time.
Receive email alerts from airlines
Last minute flight deals are once in a blue nowadays but they do happen sometimes. If you sign up to receive emails from airlines they’ll send you flash sales, new routes with special introductory rates, and most importantly, low fares on last minute flights. Make sure to check your inbox Tuesday afternoons because by this point the airline will know whether or not their weekend flights are fully booked. If they have many empty seats they will cut the price and email their subscribers.
Choose your credit card carefully
You can cut flight costs by applying for an airline credit card that rewards you with air miles. If you’re flying from far away (which most people are) then you’ll get a lot of air miles making your way to paradise island! You can also build up your air miles by using the card to go grocery shopping, for example, because the more you spend the more points you earn...but make sure to pay it off in full every month so you won’t have to pay interest.
Buy a one way ticket
Sometimes, it ends up being cheaper to buy two one way tickets from different airlines than a roundtrip ticket from one.
24-hour refund
Check if the airline you booked with will give you a free refund if you cancel more than 24 hours before departure. If so, keep an eye on the price of the flight you bought and if it goes down, cancel the ticket you bought and re-book the cheaper ticket.
