Vinz Kowalsky is enjoying his first time here on Koh Phangan along with his 10 year DJ friend John Cortex who he plays with regularly…
Hi Vinz, so what do you think of the island so far?
I think it’s really nice and it’s open for us to do everything…
How did you start your DJ career?
I started 12 years ago, the first time I saw one of Carl Cox’s sets I said that I wanted to play the same as him!
I learnt by myself, I bought turntables and practiced, both me and John started with vinyl and have developed over time.
How would you explain your style?
It’s not a special style we just love electronic music which is a very big genre, I play all of it in some way or another.
If you play a new track that has only been out for 2 days then that’s the best, we love to play new tracks and share the new music.
What will you do for Phanganist Hostel this Wednesday?
Mostly Deep House, Tech House but here it’s not a big party venue, it’s more like a nice place, with swimming pool and bar so we’ll cater to that.
We’ll definitely bring new music, we download music every day and mix new music with old music.
How is the project going with John Cortex?
Because we have known each other a long time, he trusts me and I trust him. We have played together already for 10 years and it can be difficult for DJs to do this as it’s not easy to have the same feeling but we understand the music together really well.
Do you think you will stay on Phangan?
I think yes, I like the open mind of the people, the spirit here as in our country it’s very different, every party closes at midnight where as here you have a party every day and every where. It’s more freedom and really different from France for sure.
What are your plans for the future?
We want to find professional venues and people and work together with them and also make a new album with Cortex.
Leave us with your ‘Music Philosophy’...
Don’t play the same music as everybody else. Music for a DJ is your identity.
