This year Loy Krathong was held on November the 14th here in Thailand, this beautiful festival takes place all over the country and that includes our small island of Koh Phangan.

There were a few gatherings over the island to celebrate Loy Krathong, the main one being at Thong Sala Pier area and others at Baan Tai Pier and organised resort celebrations.

Our photographer was at the Thong Sala celebration where many of the island’s locals had gathered to float their krathong off onto the ocean water of Koh Phangan.

Many families were present with their small children, probably being taught about the tradition of floating the krathong and wishing away bad spirits. The the sea becomes magical with twinkling lights from the candles which are placed in the krathongs and then let off to float on the water.

Expats and tourists also joined in this tradition, learning of the culture and joining in themselves whilst the power and light of November’s supermoon shone brightly in the sky.

People brought their pets, dogs and a cat were there and it was a friendly family occasion, you could literally feel the peace forming in the air with a nice lovely warm vibe with lots of smiles.
