The times are changing here on our sweet island of Phangan, as they do year after year, the days of hectic busy periods are drawing to a close and the island is very gradually getting quieter as the hot months start to roll in.
This can be one of the best times to visit the island however, a chance to experience the real side of Koh Phangan, the one that continues after the parties, the normal life that grows when eyes are not watching.
This is a great time to ‘get involved’ with the island, Phangan Animal Care for Strays is always in need of volunteers to help out with the stray dogs and cats on the island plus you get to learn about what happens there and issues that the island faces outside of party time.
You can meet more people, long termers outside of the hecticness and maybe learn about all the ‘secret’ spots more so than if you were amongst the hoards of high season tourists. It is easier to connect with other travellers as there are not so many around, more space to talk to each other at the hostel, time to relax and enjoy the pace of life more.
Maybe get involved with a beach clean up, take care of the natural spaces here and then enjoy them with others in the peace and quiet.
There’s always a chance to still party here and also there are local festivals like Colormoon happening from April 23rd to 27th.
Don’t be put off by the fact it is quieter, there are still people and things to do and you can experience them in a quality over quantity fashion and enjoy less traffic when you are exploring this magic island.
