Rames always busy painting at Phangan Handicrafts

For those of you who have been here a while and also those who have not, you have probably at least noticed the shop at the beginning of Walking street, Thong Sala, Phangan Handicrafts.


You cannot help but glance at this little place as the artist there is always doing some painting surrounded by his unique t-shirts and artwork.

Phanganist went to meet Rames who owns the shop and find out a little more about what he does.


We actually turned up unannounced but this lovely, smiley man was very co-operative and friendly, we suggest you go see him yourselves!

Rames is 43 years old but you would never think it! He has been working as an Artist for 20 years now.

The work he does consists of a few different aspects. The ones people notice first are his t-shirts. They are different from your usual neon Full Moon style, much more stylish with beautiful designs that he screen prints on himself in the studio / shop.

As well as this, he paints directly on to t-shirts, which is what he was doing when we arrived. In addition, he does more traditional paintings. The paintings in watercolour of places in Koh Phangan, some of coastal areas with boats are beautiful. A perfect souvenir of this amazing island.

If your budget is smaller then he also has his original postcards starting at 20 Baht.

Phanganist asked Rames what he enjoys the most but he loves doing all of it! However, he does enjoy going back to basics with some drawing.
