In celebration of John Locke, whose philosophical works argued for the rights of any single human person, on 29 August, Locke's birth, is celebrated the Individual Rights Day.

Locke claimed that anything that a man has as a matter of human rights or civil rights is to remain inviolably his. While Locke acknowledged that human beings lost some natural rights in exchange for the universal security provided by governments, he maintained that fundamental individual rights include existence, health, land, freedom of expression, freedom of faith, and the freedom to petition the government.

Individual Rights Day was founded by the Objectivist Party's creator, Dr. Tom Stevens, who advocates John Locke's philosophy concerning the rights of the smallest group and fundamental unit of society – the individual.

Individual Rights Day celebrations involve reading about John Locke and his beliefs, reviewing the contribution of your country to defending rights, and appreciating the importance of freedom and the enshrined in the constitution value of individual rights.
