Katerina first visited Koh Phangan 3 years ago to visit a friend. She was meant to be here for just one week as she was travelling with her brother for 3 weeks in total. As with many people she ended up staying for 2 months and cancelling her flight 3 times! She came back after 10 months to live long term. For the first year Katerina just relaxed and partied, it was in her 2nd year that she opened Island Beauty Spa in Thong Sala (opposite Family Mart). She explains that Phangan took her heart because it’s so beautiful and we agree! Katerina was kind enough to visit Phanganist HQ at 10am, before she opens the Spa to tell us more...
Good morning, we know you are a very busy lady so thank you for coming. Tell us about the spa?
I have been open for about 7 months now. It is what I like to do in my life. I am very happy when people come, then they feel beautiful afterwards, for me it’s a pleasure.
Do you need an appointment?
Yes you do, to avoid disappointment. You can come in, contact me on facebook or telephone.
When did you start in the beauty industry and what got you into it?
I have been in the business for 6 years now. I started off waxing for myself then my friends would ask me to wax for them. My friend opened a salon in russia so I started working there, then after this I opened my own..
What sort of treatments do you offer?
Many kinds. We have professional waxing, the indian technique of threading, anti cellulite programs, cosmetologist, manicure and pedicure, shellac and many kinds of interesting spa treatments. On Phangan this is the only place for some of these treatments as they are speciality treatments from Russia, Morocco and Israel. I also have bought a Cedar Barrel which is a mini sauna from Siberia, this is the only place on Phangan and probably the whole of Thailand where you can find it..
What do you do in your free time and what are your favourite places?
I have just started Wakesurfing, it is a new hobby for me and can be a little dangerous because it is done at sea. When I find myself in a bad mood I paint, this helps relax me. Also meditation is very important as it is time for myself. My favourite place is Thong Nai Pan, if I ever have days off I will always be there. I also like Haad Rin beach, but only when it is quiet.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I would like to have a chain of my spa’s in different locations like Samui, Bangkok etc. I would like a Husband, family and children and to travel around the world.
What is your life philosophy?
Just keep doing what you love and listen to your heart. Don’t dwell on something bad, it will all be ok and turn out very good.
See you next week at the Spa Katerina, Thank you! xx
