Hi Guys,
Thank you for showing interest in our Magazine!
We are very happy to share your story here!
To get started we will like you to write or add a short Biography.
Stuff like; who are you? Where do you come from? What do you do? How did you begin? Your CV?
Your Hopes & Dreams?
My name is Jody Stoddart but everyone over here calls me Joe or Joey. This is after a dutch friend and great drummer, the late Herbert, , was convinced my name was Joey no matter how many times I told him, so it stuck. I come from Scotland and Ive been surviving in Thailand the last 10yrs by playing guitar. I have played in bands since I was 15 in Scotland and also in Amsterdam, for 2yrs before coming to Thailand, but here on Koh Phangan is the first time I’ve got by from ONLY that, which I’m very happy about! I don’t really have any particular hopes or dreams for the future, because to live and work in a place like has been a dream of mine from years before so I’m happy to live in the moment now.
particular style, but I’ll have a go at anything I can. I’ve learned alot from the folks I’ve played with here.
We thought of some questions that you can use as guidelines for ouI arrived on Koh Phangan 11yrs ago, travelled about a bit, but always felt drawn back here.
After a solid year of snorkelling, drinking, and spending ALL my money, I started meeting other musicians and began playing gigs. The mixed bag of people and music I’ve been involved with here has been amazing! I don’t pin the music I play down to any r interview.
Feel free not to answer all of them.
If there is something else you would like to add you are of course more than welcome!
What is your Koh Phangan story?
I arrived on Koh Phangan 11yrs ago, travelled about a bit, but always felt drawn back here.
After a solid year of snorkelling, drinking, and spending ALL my money, I started meeting other musicians and began playing gigs. The mixed bag of people and music I’ve been involved with here has been amazing!
Have you been involved with projects here before?
I mostly play in bars, retsaurants and resorts but I’ve also done live guitar with DJ’s at the Halfmoon party and at the Experience festival on Koh Tao. I’ve been doing studio work with various people who’ve chosen this island to record their music. At the moment I’m concentrating on my duo with Jimmy from Koh Samui. We go by ‘Jim and Joe’, and we do a mix of covers and originals.
What is the best thing you ever been involved with or done?
Can’t really pick out a ‘best thing’ but every year, a guy called Jaap from Holland comes here and I play in his band. He was picked out by the Jimi Hendrix Experience band members to step in for Jimi for a tribute in the 80’s(which he did) and that still blows me away to think about that. A few yrs ago I was asked to play on the Trash Can Sinatra’s album ‘In The Music’ in New York which was a great experience plus Carly Simon guested on it too, which was a buzz.
How would you classify your music?
I don’t pin the music I play down to any particular style, but I’ll have a go at anything I can and
try to learn from the folks I play with.
Which music did you bring in your record bag for Phangan?
Loads of stuff but right now I can only remember ‘Off The Wall’ by M.Jackson cos it was a cassette tape and it’s broken now.
What do you listen to yourself when you want to unwind?
Depends, but ‘One Quiet Night’, an acoustic album from Pat Metheny, an incredible guitarist, springs to mind but for really unwinding, I think absolute silence is best.
Where and Who do you get your inspiration from?
Do you find Koh Phangan to be the right place for you?
So far, yes.
Where is your favorite place here?
Paeng waterfall. Go everyday with my dog.
What are your next projects?
Do you see yourself playing on Phangan in 10 years from now? Where do you see your self then?
If you were a Magician what would you make?
What is your favorite cartoon?
If you were your own mother what would you tell yourself?
If you had a super power what would it be?
What is the strangest question anyone ever asked you?
What’s the speed of dark?
What was your last lie about?
The answer to the last question. Nobody asked me that.
What is your life philosophy?
