The Thai Hotel Association (THA) has called for the government to reopen the country to tourists, mainly because hotel occupancy is almost none, with some small operators being forced to close up.

THA chairman Marisa Sukosol Nunbhakdi said the government should consider to open borders with safe nations or cities and put back a plan to bring back tourists.

She said that tourism industry operators still find it tough to take out loans, and called the government to initiate up a loan fund to help them out.

Separately, Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said the Prime Minister talked to the Covid-19 Situation Administration Center to encourage international visitors to visit different areas such as Phuket.

He said it would be extended to other provinces such as Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani, or Chonburi if this scheme proved successful.
