In its COVID-19 response, the World Health Organization has highlighted many notable accomplishments of health agencies in Thailand, advising Thailand to work together with the WHO to create a joint database and to extend monitoring of outbreaks in preparation for a likely new wave of infections.
Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health, together with Dr. Daniel Kertesz, WHO Representative to Thailand, announced the results of the Joint Intra-Action Analysis of Thailand's COVID-19 response, convened in July by WHO, the Ministry of Public Health and other agencies.
Dr. Daniel said the recommendations of the review centered on improving coordination, enhancing COVID-19 surveillance and data systems, and strengthening and protecting health staff.
According to WHO recommendations, the Intra-Action Review (IAR) was held to analyze COVID-19 reaction operations in the first six months of the pandemic in Thailand.
Recommendations are provided by the IAR to help strengthen Thailand's response to COVID-19, such as national-level evaluation, community involvement, disease surveillance, research and contact tracing, as well as laboratory management.
The representative of WHO Thailand said that addressing these recommendations immediately will ensure that future waves of COVID-19 in Thailand being responded to much more effectively.
The Minister of Public Health said Thailand was the first country to join the IAR, which reveals that the country's robust public health system, inclusive accessibility to health services, swift hospital management, and the preparedness of local disease research teams are key factors in the successful response of the country to COVID-19.
