A house party in Chon Buri was raided last night, it consisted of 10 people, most of them from out of the area. The gathering was a direct violation of the Emergency Decree enacted to stop the spread of Covid-19.
Na Jomtien police were contacted by a “concerned citizen” that a noisy party was being held at a house at 9:30pm. They got to the house, knocked on the door and 37 year old Paruehat Tampanon answered and told them he is renting the house for a few days and his friends were joining him for a small duration of that time.
The police discovered 9 other people at the house, 2 of them unfortunately tested positive for illegal drugs of which the specifics are not known. There were lots of alcoholic beverages around which are now legal to buy take-away since the ban has been lifted.
Paruehat said that he did not know that Chon Buri still has strict social distancing measures in place and also a ban on private parties. He said that all 10 people know each other and live with each other so there was be no threat of spreading the virus.
The owner of the house, 35 year old Piyanuch Ignatov, was charged with illegally operating a hotel and disobeying a Chon Buri order. (Rentals of fewer than 30 days are technically not allowed under Thai law.)
All those arrested face stiff Emergency Decree penalties, which means fines of up to 100,000 baht and/or up to 2 years in jail.
