In these days, as a farang who lives in Thailand the importance of keeping the Covid-19 safety rules is essential.

In addition of putting other people in danger, Thai and Farangs, almost every time there is a case of not keeping the curfew or other rules by a farang, it gets published in nationwide news papers.

As you can read last week, there was a strong Facebook vlog by Spotlight Thailand, condemning Farangs for not keeping the rules.

More violations of the rules by farangs might cause a disturbing conflict with the local communities and might cause more strict rules for the foreigners staying in Thailand in this time.

We find it important to state that as yesterday a number Germans detained in Chiang Mai for removing coronavirus barrier.

They were detained at Chiang Mai for allegedly attempting to remove a barrier of Covid-19 coronavirus . The expats say that it prevented entry to their home.

Locals, however disagreed, saying the barrier was crucial in stopping Covid-19's spread and filed a police complaint. The headman of the district argues that raising their fence was an illegal move, and that the Germans would be charged and punished. Chiang Mai Immigration has also been called upon to investigate the visa status of the involved Germans.

Chiang Mai One News claims that it is not certain if the fence stopped the Germans from entering their property absolutely. But from the picture of Chiang Mai News the barrier looks like it will deter a herd of stamping elephants, let alone the German expats attempting to return to their house.

Xenophobia against foreigners, primarily 'farang' or caucasians, occurs from time to time through Thailand, where some Thais accuse outsiders for the spread of coronavirus in the Kingdom, given the disease that emerged in China. Thais, confined to their homes and unable to work, are searching for someone to blame for the crisis and are getting steadily frustrated and distressed.

A Facebook page 'Spotlight Thailand' located in Phuket this week, mainly an anti-corruption campaigner, went full rogue when the page's creator called on local Phuketians to catch slingshots and rocks to shoot at "poor visitors" who violated the curfew or didn't wear face masks. Pictures of 'foreigners' flying across the island or visiting different places in a 'shame file' followed the initial article.

Whether meant as a joke or not, the comments on the posts endorsing the post and showing pictures of their slingshots at the ready included hundreds of vicious responses.

“Get out from my country if you cannot stay at home. Shit tourist#”

As this point, there have been no cases of high-speed rock reaching foreigners and Facebook has taken down the offending Facebook account.

The Covid-19 outbreak in Thailand has been economically ruinous to Thais and working expats, particularly in the country's tourist regions, one day hoping that foreigners can return and reopen their pockets.
