Original Phangan Drum and Bass DJS Noize, Sith and Kang!

Original Phangan Drum and Bass DJs Noize, Kang and Sith are a solid squad. Choosing to pursue their hearts choice in music and not to follow the masses here on Koh Phangan we are delighted that they are on board with us at Phanganist with our weekly Drum n Bass Night, the Bass Lines will rumble once again on Koh Phangan! We catch up with them ahead of Friday’s party…

Noize - I am from many places but now have been here for more than 10 years.

Kang - I was born in Nakhon Si Thammarat and have been here about 20 years.

When did you all start to DJ?
Kang - From the year 2000, I heard this very good music which was different from the rest, I was working in Orchid Club as a bartender a long time ago. I would hear DnB every every night there and loved the music so this made me want to be a DJ.

Noize - It was about 2004/5 when I started for Sunrise Resort in Haad Rin. Every evening I’d sit on the beach listening to Drum n Bass, then my cousin who was the owner of Sunrise invited me to try DJ.  I would walk to next door to Orchid club and listen to the DnB style, it was then that I knew I would like to start DnB. First I played House music and then changed to DnB because of these two guys!

Sith - Before when I opened the Orchid club we would play House and basic Jazz, everyone plays House or Techno so I wanted to give a change for the customers and tourists, a new one music with a chance for a different party, we chose Drum n Bass.
I think it is more fun, it’s more everything! It’s good for the DJs and the owners, also when I play I feel good. We have MCs and everything.

What is it about Drum n Bass that you all love, what makes it different to other music?
Kang - Ooh hard question!

Sith - It can do everything...

Noize - It’s different from other music, it’s not a stable tempo, you can change from low to high, we can rewind it back, we can do everything on the decks!

What equipment do you use?
Noize - Turntables, we still use vinyl record for everything.

We recently interviewed DJ Alize from London and he was impressed with your record collection, it shows dedication so how do you source your Drum n Bass music?
Noize - We have a friend who was working as a DJ and he met us and was impressed so he gave us a present when he left, he does this all the time.

Now we also have an improvement with our internet so it makes it easy to order from overseas; UK ,Germany and some from America. We still have DJ Alize, each time our Drum n Bass friends come they come they bring records for presents.

Why do you think it’s important to have Drum and Bass on Koh Phangan?
Noize - It’s a really, really unique style.

Kang - For me it is different music from everyone else.

Sith - And I love it! We give something new for the customers, we have people around the world and we give a new genre for the tourists to come.

Noize, you have played already for our DnB nights, how do you like them?
I think each time there is more improvement. For the first time the DJ booth position was not too good and now we have moved to the other side and have improved the sound system, the boss said to put more sound!

I think every week will be more and more better, we can invite more good DJs to come and join us each time.

Kang and Sith, you will start this Friday the 3rd, what will you bring?
Kang - I play more Reggae Jungle and old skool, I feel this to be alive ya know, not hard Drum n Bass, for me more reggae sounds make people happy for sure!

Sith - I play some Commercial Drum n Bass, some Dubstep, we can make everyone happy.

Were you sad when Sunrise stopped Drum n Bass for Full Moon?
Noize - After they stopped we joined Fubar and we have our friend in Samui who got us to play there so it wasn’t all bad.

What do you think is good about the DnB crowd?
They dance more and jump more, they have a good time. When we play we have to watch the customer also, sometimes we start with sweet vocals first and then go more happy, more fun then we put on more jump music for them.

Every hour we have to think and watch the customer, we never make a plan from home, we watch all the faces.

Do you three always play together?
Kang - Yes! We are a team and can help each other, we have Sith with Commercial, Noize with Rolling, Deeper and Liquid and then I play Reggae Jungle,

How did you meet?
Kang - I worked at Orchid with Sith...

Noize - I worked at Sunrise next door, every night when I finished I would walk to Orchid and we’d sit in the DJ booth together.

Sith - Before Noize used to play House music and slowly we changed him Ha-ha! Changing, change, changed…!!

Noize - Right now I only have only DnB vinyl records, there’s no other music for me now!

Why should people come see you play at Phanganists Drum n Bass Night on Friday?
Sith - It will be cool, Hahahaha!

Noize - Real Phangan Drum n Bass is back!!!
