We don’t need to tell you how beautiful Koh Phangan is.
It is pretty obvious, but the increase in tourism and growing population along with other factors has led to a rise in rubbish washing up on our beaches. Many people are getting stuck in to help keeping Phangan clean. There are recycling projects, beach cleaning groups and events and the general mentality of the Island’s residents is positive.
There is still rubbish though, maybe this cannot be helped in this day and age but a good way to live by is ‘reduce, reuse and recycle!’.
Hinch from the Holy Grill is a veteran recycler, he turns things that he finds into full blown BBQ’s that you can fit a whole pig in! You also have Skunk and Jef at Jungle Experience who use motorcycle parts to create amazing sculptures. There is always something you can do to help, whether it is just taking your own bag to the shops to using containers for storage at home.
Phanganist went on a mission to the beach to see what they could find and how they could use the rubbish from the beach…
The mission was clear. Find some rubbish and clear it away.
It didn’t take Phanganist long to find something, in fact it was there straight away. In amongst some wood, bamboo and other fishing stuff were glass bottles, cans, food packets etc.
Now everyone loves sitting on the beach, listening to the sea and catching some rays so why not spend just a little bit of your time doing something productive while you are there?
If you find something on the beach that is not supposed to be there its very easy to pick this up and take it to a nearby bin and dispose of it in the correct way.
This is just a small example of what could be achieved if everybody did the same thing and discarded just one piece of litter every day on your favourite beach.
Let us know if you have found some hidden treasure or something unusual while you do your bit for keeping Phangan clean. We don’t want to preach but this is something that is really very important but we need your ideas and help too!
There is The Green Cross Beach Clean today around the island where many people will be catching some rays and helping other Phangan people keep this island clean and beautiful.
We hope this article goes a small way to inspire you to help keep our beaches clean and join in what is a great social event with like minded people who want to keep this island as beautiful and clean as you do....:)
Phanganist will be out on the beach again this afternoon and doing their part on their beach and we hope you can do the same to yours.... )
