Desperate Times - Myanmar nationals illegally cross border in hope for work

Eighteen Myanmar nationals were arrested for illegal entry before dawn on Friday, after crossing the Moei River to Mae Sot district.

A team of police and immigration officers and soldiers have spotted a group of people carrying their bags across the Moei River to Ban Rim Moei in Mae Sot border district's Tha Sailuad tambon.

Nine men and nine women attended. All have been arrested.

They told police they were hoping to get work in Tak province's inner areas. They were being held for legal action and deportation at the Mae Sot Immigration office.
