Need a little help to unwind and relax before bedtime? You should try this sleepy drink made with local ingredients that are easily available and cheap here on the island.

This ‘golden milk’ can also help flush liver toxins as well as having anti-inflammatory agents from the magical spice that is tumeric.

The base of the drink can be made from coconut milk which is made up of fatty acids that are extremely healthy for us. They give our body and brain energy, promoting weight loss, regulating blood sugar levels and protecting the cardiovascular system. It also has antioxidants, vitamins C, E, and B, and minerals magnesium, potassium, iron and phosphorus. All of these boost the immune system, protect us from colds, flu and other bacterial infections, support the health of our bones and teeth, and calm our nervous system...perfect to prepare for sleep.

The ingredient of Ginger makes this drink wonderfully spicy and is known for its therapeutic uses.It is said to alleviate pain, calm the digestive system and relieve nausea, promote circulation, reduce high blood pressure, and regulate insulin secretion, among others.Its power in curing respiratory illnesses is unmatched.

What you need:
2 cups of coconut milk
1 teaspoon of turmeric
1 piece of sliced ginger
¼ teaspoon black pepper (helps get the benefits of cucumin from the turmeric)
Optional honey to sweeten

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan, except the honey. Cook over a medium heat until bubbles appear on the surface. Reduce the heat and allow the flavours to blend for around 5 minutes. Then remove the ginger, add the honey and stir the mixture.
