A Chat with Lek from Chaiwat Supermarket in Koh Tao

Pi Lek who owns Chaiwat Supermarket in Koh Tao is a lovely lady who has been on the island for fourteen years now,

‘I like Koh Tao because it’s very quiet with beautiful nature and the food and water are good here’.

Lek is originally from Bangkok and opened the store as there was not so many other shops offering such a wide choice.

‘We have a lot of choice here with Thai and Western food for our customers’.

We asked her what products sell the most;

‘The things that are used every day are bottled water, beer and rice, these sell the most’.

Lek is a busy lady running the store and also with her four grandchildren who she cares for in her free time when their parents are at work.

‘If the grandkids stop then that’s when I stop! That’s when I have holiday!’
