Dow’s story, as with many other elephants is full of sadness and pain. Dow means 'star' in Thai. At 50 years old, she has been in the logging and trekking industry her entire life and during her working years, has been blinded in one eye and has a terrible limp from a horrific logging injury.

COVID-19 has shut down all elephant sanctuaries and trekking camps due to lack of tourism and Dow's owner has no money to look after her during these times.

Samui Elephant Haven will give shelter to Dow for as long as they can. Allowing her the opportunity to heal her emotional and physical wounds and reunite with her elephant friends and family.

Sadly Dow will have to return to trekking when tourists come back to Thailand unless you can help the Haven keep this shining star.

Will COVID-19 change people’s perceptions of elephant and other animal entertainment? Let's hope so.
