Penang in Malaysia is the most common choice for people on Koh Phangan wishing to get a new visa for Thailand. Most people have an easy experience, get their new visa whether it is Tourist, Education or Business and get to enjoy the wonderful flavours of food in Georgetown and hang out with Mr Jim of course!
Also, if you wish to just do a border bounce to get an extra 30 days or whatever your home country is allowed then most go to the Malaysian border to get their stamp as it is the closest place.
But, why not check out another location for a change? Go out of your comfort zone to experience a new city/country to add to your list, even if it is just for a few days…
Laos
Laos is North of the country of Thailand and so for us Phanganists will be the longest place to get to. One of guests here at Phanganist Hostel describes Laos as having ‘the best scenery I have seen in my life!’ so it may be worth the visit.
They have a Thai Embassy in Vientiane which is the Country’s capital city and has a mix of colonial architecture along with Buddhist Temples alongside the majestic Mekong River.
Myanmar
Formerly Burma, Myanmar sits to the West of Thailand and so is easily accessible. There is a Thai Embassy in Yangon and we have many friends from Myanmar who tell us their home country is very beautiful and of course as anyone who has a Burmese friend will know, they are very lovely people.
Cambodia
Cambodia lies Southeast of Thailand and there is a Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh which is the Capital.
Cambodia is famous amongst travellers with its Angkor Wat Temple located in Siem Reap, a must visit ruined temple which is absolutely beautiful.
If you want to go even further then you can also try Vietnam! Enjoy and take care!
