Bangkok on a budget. We'll teach you our ways...
Getting Around
Transportation in Bangkok is already cheap according to general standards, but we’re all here to get the best deal (aka penny-pinch).
So here’s our options, arranged from dirt cheap to just cheap: Bus (from ฿7, sometimes even free), motorbike (from ฿10), boat (from ฿10), train (BTS/MRT start from ฿15), and metered taxi (from ฿35 flagdown rate). Want something cheaper than dirt cheap? Just walk whenever you can!
ACCOMMODATION
Stay at hostels! A no-brainer, but we're just here to swear by it. Bangkok has some of the cheapest hostels, and they don't necessarily sacrifice good facilities (which you won't need anyway 'cause you'll surely be out all the time!) Average rate per night is ~฿500, but you're a fighter—you'll find cheaper ones!
ENTRANCE FEES
Some of the places you’ll likely want to see require admission fees. And while we do encourage you to explore, you could first reconsider if you really do want to visit the place (or at least sort out your list). This can go a long way budget-wise. Also, watch out for days when a place offers discounts or sometimes even free admissions, e.g., holidays and certain days/times of the week.
FOOD
Street food all the way! Even if you did have all the money in the world, we’d still be here pushing you to eat Thailand’s street food. They are GREAT. Just try it for yourself. And that ฿100 bill will still leave you with a penny or two.
SHOPPING
If you’re spending time in Bangkok, it’s safe to assume there will be some sort of shopping one way or another. However, you might wanna walk past that glamorous mall complex and instead head over to that quaint outdoor market just beside it. Cheaper finds, and not always for lower quality! ฿1,000? That's a few bags more than you'd like to carry.
Great memories / Material souvenirs
No "I ❤️ Bangkok" shirt will ever beat awesome memories you could be making to look back on someday!
BONUS BUDGETING TRICK
To seal the deal, we suggest you drag the whole squad on to this trip. The more, the merrier! (But more importantly, you can all save more money by splitting the bills and getting discounts for always coming in as a group. Tell them this part later. ?)
