Phanganist was lucky enough, whilst on its travels to come across this rare sight of two king cobra's in Ban Tai.
We noticed a group of people standing around, just before the Luna Cafe.

There is a small bridge and a river and this is where the cobra's were.
The local thai people were saying excitedly 'King Cobra, King Cobra!'.

King Cobra's can be found all over Thailand and just about anywhere but are very rearely seen which is what is so magic about it!
And these two beauties were left to do whatever their natural instincts were telling them.
We spoke with Stefan from Reptile Rescue Phangan to find out what he thinks...
' I would say, they're mating. Comment fight looks similar, but not so gently.
They look like monocled cobras to me. They get very bright by high body temperature, It could also be rat snakes'.
Stefan took a closer look...
'The colour matches to Indo Chinese Rat Snakes (Ptyas korros). They can also get pretty big.
But it matches to the Monocled Cobra (Naja Kaouthia) or sometimes to the King Cobra (Ophiophagus Hannah).
Naja Kaouthia (Monocled) don't get much longer than two metres.
People often call me: "We have a giant King Cobra in the kitchen. Must be longer than three metres. In the end it was a 1.5m Monocled Cobra.
A 1.5m Monocled Cobra is sometimes almost as fat as a 2m King Cobra or a 2m Rat Snake.
I can recognize a neck shield on one of your video snapshots. But I can't say, if it's long and slim, or short and wide.
If it's short and wide, I would tend to Monocled Cobra again.
The King, which is actually not a true cobra,... (as you can see by it's scientific name)...shows a long slim neck shield.
But all these signs I can just guess from your images'.

The nature of Koh Phangan will always amaze us, let's hope it can stay as it is...
